A dacoit was reportedly killed in an encounter with the police in Allama Iqbal Town area here on Saturday, while the police captured two other dacoits.
According to police, the members of a gang of dacoits forced their entry into a house in Allama Iqbal Town on Saturday noon and took a child hostage at gun-point.
However, police got the information through some sources, and reached the spot immediately.
The police surrounded the entire house and after an exchange of fire got the hostage freed. In the encounter, one dacoit was killed, two arrested while others managed to escape.
The dacoit killed in the encounter was identified as Akmal, while the name of one of the arrested dacoits has been stated as Suhail. They belonged to Rawalpindi and Lahore, respectively.
According to police, efforts are on to arrest the absconders. After getting information from the arrested dacoits, raiding parties have been dispatched to Rawalpindi for the arrest of their accomplices.
