Lahore to be made clean city

11 Jan, 2004

In a bid to chalk out a strategy to check increasing pollution and make the provincial capital neat and clean, an important meeting will be held at the Environment Protection Department on Monday, January 12.
The representatives from different government agencies, including environment, transport, traffic police, regional transport authority, and excise and taxation will participate.
The meeting, which will be chaired by Secretary Environment Protection Department, Punjab, will discuss ways and means to prepare a comprehensive strategy to deal with the hazards of pollution, especially caused by noise and smoke emitting vehicles.
It may be mentioned that District Nazim Mian Aamir Mahmood in a meeting held a few days ago also called for co-ordination between different government departments and agencies to make the provincial capital a pollution free city.
The participants of the meeting came up with the unanimous view that without checking pollution, particularly noise and smoke pollution, efforts for making the city neat and clean may not succeed.
