Chairman, Site Association of Industry (SAI) M Nisar Shekhani has urged the managing director of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) to initiate enquiry against the concerned engineers in KESC as to why they did not inform the Associations at least one week before the shutdown of power supply.
He said that an abrupt shutdown of power supply to Site area on Tuesday at 9 am caused havoc in the area as the industries were not prepared for it.
The chairman taking serious note of the situation sent an SOS to KESC Managing Director in which he lodged a strong protest on behalf of the industries in Site area.
He said that without taking the industrial Associations into confidence, KESC shut down power supply to industrial areas in the city on Tuesday, allegedly for carrying out annual general maintenance and overhauling.
This resulted in loss of millions (of rupees) in production, damage to raw material, and electrical equipment, besides non-fulfilment of export and local orders.
He noted that in the past, KESC always used to inform the Association of its intent to shut down power supply, well in advance, to avoid inconvenience to the industries. Site Association has taken very serious note of this error of omission.
