Pfizer grant to Kidney Centre to continue

15 Jan, 2004

The Pfizer, Pakistan has announced to continue its grant for free treatment of the kidney patients at the Kidney Centre here under the National Dialysis Treatment Services (NDTS).
The NDTS was initiated to sponsor free treatment for Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) patients, who could not afford the life saving and expensive treatment of dialysis. Over 1,800 patients all over the country, registered with this programme, were supposed to be provided free treatment under the NDTS.
Due to its financial and other constraints, the NDTS programme was in jeopardy and the patients were suffering, as they could not continue with their life-saving treatment.
Understanding and sympathising with the plight of these patients, the Ministry of Health approached the pharmaceutical industry for help.
The Pfizer, Pakistan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, requested the Pfizer Global Philanthropy Programme to help and initiate the treatment of 100 dialysis patients under the government's National Dialysis Treatment Program in 2002.
A donation of over Rs 10 million was handed over to the Kidney Centre's Post-graduate Institute, Karachi, to support these patients.
