Indian Defence Minister George Fernandes was slightly injured in a road accident Wednesday while touring his parliamentary constituency in the eastern state of Bihar, he told reporters.
The accident occurred early in the morning when his car rammed a truck head-on in blinding fog in Bihar's Nalanda district, said the defence minister, who later travelled by train to the state capital of Patna.
The 73-year-old Fernandes said he was sitting beside his driver and sustained light injuries to his head and legs in the crash.
"The accident took place because of poor visibility owing to fog," the defence minister said, adding that he had completely recovered.
"There is nothing to worry, I am all right. I feel good and I should be back to work if doctors allow me," Fernandes said.
A provincial minister from Bihar's adjoining state of Uttar Pradesh also became a victim of fog within hours of Fernandes's accident, the Press Trust of India reported.
Uttar Pradesh Public Enterprise minister Paras Nath Yadav, however, escaped unhurt when the car in which he was travelling collided head-on with a truck in dense fog Tuesday night in the state's Jaunpur district, police said.
