Stocks held slim gains in late trading on Wednesday, as investors nibbled at wireless carriers and other selected stocks, but the market was mostly treading water with results from a few technology bellwethers due after the bell.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 71 points, or 0.68 percent, to 10,498, and the broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index added 5 points, or 0.42 percent, to 1,126. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index gained 4 points, or 0.19 percent, to 2,100.
