Selection Board for promotion of Brigadier to Major General for 2004 was held at the General Headquarters on Friday that recommended promotion of 18 brigadiers to the next ranks.
Chief of Army Staff General Pervez Musharraf presided over the board with all corps commanders as members.
Out of 800 officers granted commission in the Army during 1974 and 1975, only 104 made it to the rank of brigadier after qualifying the stringent promotion criterion comprising various courses, promotion examinations and earlier selection boards.
This year, the selection board considered these 104 brigadiers and recommended 18 officers (2.2 percent of the officers commissioned in 1974-75) fit for promotion to the rank of major generals.
Those recommended for promotion included Brigadier Ayyaz Saleem Rana, Brigadier Bilal Omer Khan, Brigadier Zahid Pervez, Brigadier Iftikhar Ahmed Chaudhry, Brigadier Syed Muhammad Owais, Brigadier Naeem Khalid Lodhi, Brigadier Javed Iqbal, Brigadier Ahmed Bilal, Brigadier Qasim Qureshi, Brigadier Mukhtar Ahmed, Brigadier Khalid Nawaz Khan, Brigadier Sardar Mahmood Ali Khan, Brigadier Muhammad Alam Khattak, Brigadier Niaz Muhammad Khan Khattak, Brigadier Muhammad Tahir Saeed, Brigadier Muhammad Asaad, Brigadier Shafique Ahmad Kayani, and Brigadier Muhammad Rehan Burney.
