THE RUPEE: steady trend versus dollar

17 Jan, 2004

The rupee on Friday recovered 85 paisa versus euro for buying and selling at Rs 71.85 and Rs 72.15, respectively.
Profit-taking in the single European currency trade and its sliding value in world markets helped the rupee gain some strength versus the euro in the kerb market, dealers said.
However, the rupee reversed its gaining trend against dollar, losing two paisa at Rs 57.55 and Rs 57.60 for buying and selling, respectively in kerb.
The dollar moved slightly lower versus euro and yen in international markets despite repeated warnings by European Central Bank (ECB).
According to market sources, the rupee might trade in a tight range in the interbank market due to unusual dollar demand for payments.
