The feasibility report for 12 small dams will be completed shortly along with their capacity and estimated cost for the construction of water reservoirs in seven agencies of Federally-Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
Twelve sites have already been identified in seven tribal agencies of Fata for small dams aimed at providing water facilities to the people of remote areas.
According to a senior official of the Water and Power Ministry, the government has asked NWFP governor secretariat to speed up work for finalisation of feasibility reports of the proposed sites.
He said the ADB has given green signal for the provision of funds for a number of various projects, including construction of small water reservoirs in Fata.
The Asian Bank has shown interest in funding for Fata projects, and agreed to provide financial assistance for various small projects, including dams for the first time, the official said, adding a number of projects relating to the water and communication sectors in Fata.
The govt has already awarded consultancy contract to the National Engineering Services of Pakistan (Nespak) which will be completed during the current financial year, he hoped
The official said the engineering section of the secretariat had identified 12 sites after completing ground survey in the seven agencies of Fata, where small reservoirs would be constructed, adding under the multi-sectorial programmes, new irrigation channels will be designed, and funds will be provided by the government to improve the agri sector in the area.
