Customs made record seizures, arrests in 2003

The Collectorate of Customs (Preventive) made a record 175 seizures and arrested 171 accused along with large quantity of contraband drugs and other smuggled goods.
This was stated by Additional Collector Customs (Preventive) Headquarter Dr Zulfikar in a press briefing held here on Monday, on the salient features of January 25, Customs Day.
During the briefing, he was accompanied by Basit Maqsood Abbasi, Deputy Collector (Preventive) Headquarter.
Giving comparative figures Dr Zulfikar said that during 2003, the customs sleuths recovered and seized 158.764-kg heroin, 231.610-kg charas, and 2.920-kg opium.
As against this the Customs staff recovered and seized 49.715-kg heroin 3.25-kg charas and 0.19 kg opium in 54 seizures involving the arrest of as many culprits during the year 2002.
