President's address to encourage investors: minister

20 Jan, 2004

Federal Minister for Industries and Production Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi in a statement on Monday said that the address of President Pervez Musharraf at the joint session of the parliament was historic, bold and aimed at strengthening democracy in Pakistan.
Jatoi said the president's speech would bring improvement in all the social sector development activities.
He said that the determination of the president to fight against terrorism, of all kind, would bring stability in economic activities and encourage investors to invest in trade, commerce and industrial production. "His speech was in fact, a social development agenda."
Jatoi said that the president painted a realistic picture of the Pakistani culture and projected Pakistan as a tolerant country. "It has enhanced Pakistan's image and the image of Pakistanis abroad," he added.
Jatoi took notice of the "undisciplined" attitude of the opposition and said that the opposition could not maintain the kind of dignity expected from it.
He said that the protest that came from the opposition had little to do parliamentary decency.
Jatoi said that the president and the parliamentary party maintained cool and tolerated the agitation from the opposition.
