An eight-week computer training course for the students and teachers of the Department of Microbiology, University of Karachi, began on Monday.
The Chairperson of the Department, Professor Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi, performed the inauguration.
The course is being attended by over 50 students of MSc. class and some of the faculty members of the department.
It includes introduction to computer hardware, software, MS Word, Excel, power point, statistical packages, including SPSS and minitab, internet browsing and an introduction to bio-informatics.
Classes will be conducted daily from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm at the computer lab of the department.
The faculty, which would supervise the course, includes Professor Dr Ejaz Ahmed and Abdullah Shams of the Department of Statistics, Nadeem Ahmed of the Computer Science Department. Professor Dr Aqeel Ahmed will co-ordinate.
Certificates would be awarded to those who would successfully pass the course, which is for the MSc students as well as the interested M.Phil and PhD students, an official of the Department of Microbiology said.
