A strong scientific base is vital to the future economic development of the country, said Dr Anwar Nasim, chairman, National Commission on Biotechnology, and advisor (science) Comstech.
Speaking at the National Institute for Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (Nibge) here on Monday, he said the science is the only tool to help us face future challenges and ensure socio-economic development.
Dr Anwar Nasim said that concerted effort was needed to promote scientific research and study at the grass-root level among the younger generation, and that Comstech was considering launching a countrywide drive in this regard with the help of national media.
A media conference was earlier held at Islamabad in which several journalists from Islamic countries had participated, he said, adding: "We are now planning to hold a similar conference for Pakistani media persons."
The objective of this workshop will be to highlight the need to promote science and technology from all fora, said Dr Anwar Nasim.
