The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has expressed concern on delay in making a SME Bureau under the management of private sector, as recommended by the government.
In this connection the association has appealed to the Prime Minister Jamali Liaquat Jatoi, Minister for industries and production, to expedite the process of forming SME Bureau.
The Unisame convenor, Zulfikar Thaver has demanded of the government to set up an independent SME Bureau with an agenda to promote, support, encourage the SMEs and also to co-ordinate between various ministries such as, agriculture, finance, production and industry, science and technology.
He said that SMEs were suffering because of non- co-ordination between the various ministries and mentioned that the union had proposed the names of the senior persons from private sector for the post of SME Bureau chairman, as these persons have the required experience and were in a position to understand the requirements and could promote the cause of the SMEs.
The other members of the union were of the opinion that the Small & Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) could not carry out the function of the bureau and this job of co-coordination between the various ministries should be given to the proposed SME bureau.
