Pakistani carpets have received an overwhelming response from the visitors at the two international carpet exhibitions, held in the United States and Germany last week.
The latest carpet designs from Pakistan like Chobi and classical reproductions remained a preferred choice of consumers the world over, said Naeem Tahir Sheikh, a spokesman for the carpet industry.
He said Pakistani carpets did a better business at Atlanta Carpet Fair held from January 15 to 18, 2004 in US, and Domotex Fair in Hannover Germany from January 17 to 20, 2004, as compared to other participating countries.
The spokesman said at the Domotex fair, seven leading exporters from Karachi and eight from Lahore put up their stalls, adding a large number of Pakistani exporters also visited the Atlanta Fair in US.
He said about $15 million worth of carpet business was transacted at these two fairs, including on the spot sale and future orders, adding the visitors took keen interest in latest Pakistani carpet designs and colour combinations, as the Pakistani traditional design Mori Bokhara was the special attraction for the visitors.
He also said the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Chairman Tariq Ikram, who was present at the Domotex Fair, visited various stalls and appreciated the arrangements made for the display of Pakistani carpets.
