A US soldier has died of wounds sustained in a rocket-propelled grenade attack on his vehicle in the town of Beiji, north of Baghdad, the US military said Sunday.
"Last night, a 4th Infantry Divison soldier was critically wounded when attackers fired an RPG at the vehicle he was in," said Major Josslyn Aberle, the division's spokeswoman.
"He was evacuated to a combat support hospital near Baghdad but later died of his injuries."
The attack at Beiji, 200 kilometres (120 miles) north of Baghdad, pushes to 240 the number of US soldiers killed in combat in Iraq since President George W. Bush declared an end to major hostilities on May 1.
