Russian Gai contained copper output rises

27 Jan, 2004

Russia's Gai ore enrichment plant produced 76,182 tonnes of copper in concentrate in 2003, a spokesman for the Urals Mining and Metals Co (UMMC), which controls the plant, said on Monday.
The spokesman said the company had revised Gai's 2002 contained copper output to 72,457 tonnes from the earlier published 68,498 tonnes.
He said new output figures added concentrate produced from ore from Yaman-Kasy deposit in the Orenburg region where Gai is located, which was unaccounted for in previous reports.
Gai is the main supplier of feed to UMMC, the country's second largest copper producer.
The spokesman said Gai's output of zinc in concentrate in 2003 declined to 11,797 tonnes from 12,668 in 2002. Total ore output rose to 5.23 million tonnes from 5.06 million in 2002.
