Lawyers urged to ensure justice as per Islamic laws

Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad on Wednesday urged upon lawyers to introduce adherence to Islamic concept of justice.
He was addressing the members of Karachi Bar Association (KBA) after administering oath of office to newly elected body of KBA for the year 2004 at a simple but impressive ceremony held here at City Courts complex.
"As a Muslim I have learnt that Islam gives preference to justice in all spheres of life and its basic ingredient is equality of all before the law," said Sindh Governor adding that lawyers should strive to ensure "justice" as per Islamic laws.
"We have many laws, rules and regulation concerning human rights, women rights, etc but the same do not have inherent deterrent," said Governor Ishratul Ibad calling upon the lawyers community to point out lacunas and weak pieces of legislation so that law be made more effective to reform the society.
The Governor said every citizen has a right to seek justice and it was responsibility of the state to ensure this and adding that lawyers should serve the litigants with utmost diligence and honesty.
He also called upon the judges of lower judiciary to improve relations between the bar and the bench.
Referring to problems faced by the lawyers community particularly members of the KBA, Sindh Governor held out an strong assurance that all issues raised by the KBA would be addressed at the earliest and solved soon as "every thing is in the reach of the government."
He also announced a grant of Rs one million for the KBA.
Later talking with the reporters, the Governor said the present government was striving hard to bring improvement in judicial system and to facilitate litigant public.
Earlier, President of the KBA, Mehmood-ul-Hasan in his welcome address vowed that the KBA will continue to strive for upholding of democracy in the country.
He demanded shifting of City Courts to Karachi Central Prison after construction of judicial complex and shifting of prison outside Karachi.
He suggested selling of present city courts complex and said that government will get enough money to establish new judicial complex.
He also requested Sindh Governor to allot a piece of land for the KBA Co-operative Housing Society (KBACHS).
Besides Advocate General Sindh, Anwar Mansur Khan, a large number of members of the KBA attended the oath taking ceremony.
