A second blast of bitterly cold weather will hit Britain on Wednesday, bringing further snowfall and even lower temperatures.
The Meteorological Office said strong winds in Scotland and the north of England will make temperatures feel as low as minus 15 degrees Celsius.
"One weather front has already gone through and the second is on its way," a Met Office spokesman said. "The second front has colder air temperatures will struggle to get above freezing."
The bitter cold will sweep down from the north reaching southern England by the evening and is likely to cause travel problems. As much as 15 cm of snow are expected in the Midlands.
Motorists are being warned to take extreme care.
Although the Highways Agency, which manages Britain's motorways and other main roads, has its fleet of 700 gritters and snow ploughs in operation, overnight ice is likely to stay on many secondary roads.
