Chicago Tribune news termed ridiculous

31 Jan, 2004

Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri on Friday strongly contradicted a news item which appeared in the "Chicago Tribune" regarding the mounting of offensive operation by American forces on Pakistan's territory.
"This news item is ridiculous and without any foundations," Foreign Minister said in a statement in response to this news item.
Kasuri added that this news report is also senseless because the total number of the armed personnel belonging to American armed forces and other allies was anyway very limited in Afghanistan.
He said that in the views of some observers, these troops were already over extended, in view of the situation in Afghanistan.
On the other hand, the Foreign Minister said Pakistan has one of the largest and the most disciplined armed forces in the world and did not need any help on its own territory, moreover, he said that Pakistan's armed forces knew the area well.
The Foreign Minister said Pakistan has all the resources needed to operate in its own territory and added there was no question of allowing any foreign forces to operate in Pakistan.
He said that such reports had appeared many times in the past and had proved false.
