Dr Zaki Hasan, a well-known neuro psychiatrist, actively involved in the promotion of medical education and healthcare for over four decades in Pakistan, announced his retirement as Dean, Jinnah Medical College, saya a press release.
Lauding the services of the retiring Dean and Professor, Dr Syed Tariq Sohail, Chairman Board of Governors, Jinnah Medical College, said that Dr Zaki Hasan "has served as a pillar of strength and support" in the establishment of the college. "It was his untiring dedication to the cause of healthcare and commitment to the promotion of education that made it possible for our college to excel in such a short span."
Born in 1927, Zaki Hasan obtained his MBBS from Hyderabad (India), with FRCP and FCPS in the UK. He has been Member of Expert Committee on Mental Health, WHO. He represented Pakistan on the Unicef Executive Board (1972-81) with the honour of being its Chairman in 1980.
Dr Hasan ably served on several boards as President, including Pakistan Medical Association and Pakistan Psychiatric Society, beside others. He is founding-member of Baqai Medical College and was its Vice-Chancellor (1992-96) when the college acquired university status.
Dr Zaki Hasan also has contributed several chapters to many published books relating to his profession, besides a multitude of articles in newspapers and magazines.
He retires as Dean of Jinnah Medical College--the institution that he helped establish in 1997--on Saturday, January 31, 2004.
