Nazim Haji has very rightly called for a reduction in the number of public holidays we are observing in Pakistan.
First of all, let us call August 14th as a National Day and observe a public holiday and we must do away with the March 23rd holiday.
General Zia introduced one extra holiday for the Eids and the 9th of Muharram. We must observe only 2 days off each for both the Eids and only 10th of Muharram as public holidays.
The Kashmir Day public holiday is also frivolous and must be done away with forthwith.
One point Haji has missed is closing of public thoroughfares for taking out religious processions and for senseless VIP movements.
As regards Haji's last para of his letter, let it to be known to all and sundry that nobody is interested in alleviating poverty nor is anyone seriously interested in making this country a modern welfare State. These are empty hollow political slogans.
