The Government of Punjab has decided to create Project Management Unit (PMU) which will manage all the projects of the provincial government costing Rs 100 million.
The Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has already accorded formal approval for the creation of the PMU, which will be created within the Planning & Development (P&D) Department with the skeleton staff, sources told Business Recorder.
About the responsibilities of the unit, the sources added, it will handle the management activities ie, detailed design of the project, preparation of PC-1 in case it is not already formulated, approval of schemes by the competent authority, issuance of administrative approval, selection of site, acquisition of land, appointment of consultants, floating of tenders for civil works, purchase of equipment, contracts and achievements of targets etc.
It will also be monitoring the progress of implementation and co-ordination with agencies involved through management of information system ie PC-III profoma, for feeding back to all concerned.
Besides this, inspection of project at site to keep the project management abreast of pace of execution and recommend remedial measures; and holding of periodic review meetings to gauge the progress achieved and identify problems of obstructing the activities and their resolution will also be the responsibility of the proposed unit.
