Five officers of the local National Savings Centres were killed, while four injured, two of them seriously, when a double-cabin pickup dashed into a tree in an attempt to save a cyclist near Sharenwala, here on Sunday afternoon.
According to details, nine staff members of National Savings were going to attend a marriage ceremony of their colleague in a pickup (IDN-3257).
When the vehicle reached near Sharenwala, about 30km from here, driver Mohammed Bashir, in a bid to save a cyclist, lost control over the steering and due to over speeding, the pickup dashed into a tree.
Resultantly, Mohammad Bashir, Assistant Director, Mohammed Arshad, Saving Officer, Khalid Mehmood PA to Director, senior clerk Mohammed Rasheed Shahkar and Javed Akhtar, stenographer, were killed on the spot or on the way to hospitals. Director Raja Khan, Mohammed Asghar, stenographer, Mohammed Iqrar, senior clerk and driver of the pickup were injured seriously.
They were admitted to Allied Hospital Faisalabad. Khurrianwala police are investigating.
