Protest against 'Qabza group'

09 Feb, 2004

A number of villagers staged a demonstration against the influential 'Qabza group' and demanded the provincial government and law enforcement authorities for safety and protection from this group, backed by a ruling elite's allied political party and urged for immediate intervention into the matter.
The villagers, led by the affected persons - Zafar Ali Bucha, Allah Bukash, Shaukat, Azhar and Omar Daraz Nandlah - staged a demonstration in Gulgasht Colony on Saturday.
The demonstrators deplored the lack of action against the increasing activities of the group.
Speaking on the occasion, Zafar Bucha said that he had purchased a residential plot worth Rs 0.5 million from Millat Party worker Malik Naseem Labar but Malik Naseem again sold the plot to other person dishonestly.
The fictitious owner Sajjad Hussein Siddique, accompanied by unidentified persons, attacked him. He (Sajjad) also threatened him that he would kill him if he would not vacate the plot.
The Revenue Department, Zafar said, has also confirmed his (Zafar's) ownership by consulting the records. Zafar further said that a complaint was lodged with the Multan DPO against the attackers. He demanded immediate steps for safety of his life.
When contacted, Malik Naseem Labar contradicted Zafar's statement about re-selling of the plot.
