CEMB to set up laboratory for stem cell research

The Punjab University's Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) will establish a laboratory for genomic programme and stem cell research.
This was decided in a CEMB Board of Governor's meeting, chaired by vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood here on Friday.
The meeting discussed the work of the centre on transgenic plant technology, bio-safety guidelines, transgenic rice and other plants developed by the centre scientists and DNA for forensics uses.
Director Dr S Riazuddin presented a progress report on academic and research activities of the centre.
The centre has completed four small field trials. The centre also developed a DNA analysis technique for using crime investigation.
