Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan has welcomed the co-operation of philanthropists in the health sector and assured positive approach of the government to inculcate confidence amongst the donors.
Addressing a delegation of Pakistan Eye Bank Society and later chairing a meeting in connection with Burns Centre of the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), here on Sunday, he also assured co-operation in campaign for securing cornea donation and announced a contribution of rupees one million for it.
He also assured the delegation that he would raise the issue of legislation for cadaver transplantation with the president and prime minister of Pakistan.
The delegation informed him that the organisation has carried out 15,000 cornea transplant while 1400 recipients are in line.
"A sum of Rs 7,000 are needed for securing a cornea besides expenditure on cornea implant," the delegation told the Sindh governor.
The delegation also informed that eye hospital at North Karachi was completed with the assistance of donors alone and is equipped with the latest machines.
The governor later presiding the meeting in respect of burns ward of CHK okayed a number of measures to upgrade the burns ward in collaboration with the NGO "Friends of Burns Centre."
