Bangladeshi taka easier on higher imports

18 Feb, 2004

The Bangladeshi taka ended slightly easier on Tuesday as demand for the US currency rose on imports of capital machinery, dealers said.
The taka was quoted at 58.87/58.88 per dollar against 58.87/58.8750 on Monday.
"The taka lost ground further after importers sought the greenback for imports of capital machinery and accessories for garment industries," said a dealer with a foreign bank.
Dealers said demand was strong but the rate ranged between 58.87/58.88 per dollar level as public banks, huge holders of government foreign funds, sold adequate dollars.
