Pakistan has graduated from a raw cotton exporting country to a major garment exporter, but it must concentrate on increasing its quality and production capabilities to face the new challenges to survive successfully in WTO regime, said Shehzad of Salam and Company.
Addressing a seminar particularly for the apparel industry here on Thursday, he said that Pakistan's future is directly linked with the production of quality garments if it has to maintain its supremacy in textile sector.
"We could earn billions dollars of foreign exchange by exploiting this available potential", he said and added that Salam and Company has arranged a number of foreign firms to provide new technologies and practices to improve their efficiencies to compete in the WTO regime.
He hoped that Pakistani industry will avail from these opportunities and improve their quality and production to face the challenges of the open markets.
Gorden Lazenby Training Manager GSD introduced the Predetermined Motion-Time Systems (PMT System) to a variety of industrial and clerical sectors.
He said that it provides a database of recognised times for predetermined and accepted activities that take place within a working environment.
PMT Systems are also used to evaluate working practices, with a view to establishing the time it takes to perform a given task and to determine the costs associated to that task, he said and added that PMT Systems also allow particularly the stitching units to evaluate and quantify the processes that are currently used within a given environment, and to redefine those processes to ensure "best practice", lowest cost and highest productivity.
Roberto Rossetti Project Manager Gruppo CF Italia said that it is one of the machine producers that are vertically integrated world-wide.
It has the privilege to introduce a strategy that places semiautomatic, flexible machines alongside economical, basic machines, so that our clients could obtain the maximum return on their investment.
The semiautomatic machines are used in order to save on labour and also to ensure a uniform quality for the garments.
Training and transferring know-how is the winning combination that we guarantee our clients, together with our machines, he said and added that this means expert sample makers and technicians who are able to carry out the installation and training in the factories.
He also explained in detail the salient features of its device that could ensure qualitatively as well as quantitative improvement in apparel industry.
