In a significant development, Mirwaiz Mohammed Omar Farooq-led Awami Action Committee (AAC) launched an anti-election campaign and urged people to boycott the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Speaking at a congregation at Jamia Masjid, Zalpora Budgam, the AAC general secretary Ghulam Mohommad Bhat appealed the people not to participate in the forthcoming parliamentary polls in the better interest of freedom movement.
Bhat, a close lieutenant of Mirwaiz said that the election boycott has become necessary for the liberation struggle.
"We feel that elections cannot solve the Kashmir issue. It is therefore in the interest of the separatist struggle that people should boycott the polls. We hereby appeal to the masses to remain away from the polls and boycott the Lok Sabha polls", he said.
It is to mention here that Mirwaiz is away in New Delhi and in his absence Bhat, who is number two in AAC, launched the anti-election campaign.
