President Pervez Musharraf said here on Tuesday that professional training and operational preparedness of the Army in peacetime was a guarantee for peace.
The President was addressing officers and jawans of a battalion of Sindh Regiment at a farewell ceremony on the occasion of their relinquishment of duties as 'Guard Battalion'.
The President's address focused on matters of professional interest. He paid rich tributes to the services rendered by the battalion in the defence of the country.
The President particularly referred to the laurels achieved by them, including two Sitara-e-Jurat, four Tamgha-e-Jurat and other awards for gallantry as a result of which the unit was regarded among the best in Pakistan Army.
The President expressed his appreciation of the duties rendered by the unit as Guard Battalion, which has also been praised by visiting heads of states, Ambassadors and foreign dignitaries to whom the battalion had presented Guards of Honour.
Earlier, in his address of welcome the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Rizwan Munir, gave an overview of the services and achievements of the battalion.
Corps Commander Lieutenant General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiani, Brigade Commander, senior serving and retired officers were present on the occasion.
