Sindh to procure wheat direct from growers

28 Feb, 2004

The Sindh government may impose ban on the private sector to procure wheat from the growers from the new crop.
Due to severe shortage of the commodity, the government wants to procure wheat direct from growers and for this purpose, it will establish procurement centres all over the province.
The procurement by the government starts from the first week of April every year, but this year, it wants to start the procurement earlier as the harvesting of the crop is to start soon in some parts of lower Sindh.
The government is of the view that hoarding of the wheat starts if it is in the hands of the private parties.
Meanwhile, some experts from Australia are expected to examine wheat arrived from that country. It is reported that two consignments of 80,000 tons received from Australia are unfit for human consumption.
