Punjab governor calls on President

Governor Punjab Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) on Friday called on President General Pervez Musharraf.
The Governor apprised the President about the proposed strategy to exploit the tremendous scope of qualitative as well as quantitative enhancement in the production of value added exportable commodities, which would help boost the national economy besides creating job market for the skilled labour in Pakistan.
Khalid Maqbool gave a detailed presentation to the President about the outcome of his interaction with the entrepreneurs from the textile and garments industry, engineering goods manufacturing sector, leather industry, housing and construction, hospitality and entertainment sectors.
The Governor informed President Musharraf that more emphasis on promotion of low cost housing schemes, establishment of common facility centres in textile stitching sector and need for taking effective measures to encourage the marketing of contamination-free cotton are the crux of this proposed strategy.
The President appreciated the efforts being made by the Governor Punjab for taking up the significant issue of poverty alleviation through induction of more vibrant policies in the sphere of mega-economy in such a way that its beneficial effects could trickle down to the common man.
Musharraf suggested that the proposed strategy be taken up with the Federal government also for its incorporation in the national trade and economic policy.
