Army called out in Multan for the assistance of civil administration. Similarly, army was called out in different cities of south Punjab, like Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Jhang and Sahiwal.
The district administration has imposed a ban on pillion riding in Khanewal, Lodhran and Jhang. However, children, elderly persons, women, policemen on duty would be exempted from these restrictions.
"We have called the army to assist the civil administration to avert any eventuality on the eve of Ashura-i-Muharram, however, law and order situation is well under control and people of all sects were abiding by the code of ethics," said Riaz Hussain Qureshi, District Nazim Multan.
More than 100 processions of Alam, Zuljinnah, and Taazia would be taken out on the tenth of Muharram in Multan city, while more than 400 processions would be taken out in the district and 689 Majalis-i-Aza would be held, he added.
He appealed to the citizens to keep vigilant eyes on the activities of suspects so that they could not play with the lives of innocent people.
