Previous management involved in corruption: IEP president

29 Feb, 2004

President and Administrator of Institution of Engineers Pakistan (IEP) Engineer Aftab Islam Agha has claimed that he has unearthed embezzlement of millions of rupees in the accounts of the association at the hands of its previous management.
While talking to newsmen here on Saturday, Aftab said that the Punjab Government, in exercise of powers conferred under Section 16-A of the Societies Registration Act 1860, superseded the governing body of Institute of Engineers Pakistan for six months and appointed an administrator, who has been asked to conduct comprehensive audit of accounts of the society so as unearth irregularities committed by the previous management.
He said that initial investigations revealed that previous management was involved in large-scale irregularities and financial embezzlement.
He said that a comprehensive audit is being conducted by a well-reputed audit firm and after collecting solid evidence, the culprits would be taken to task.
"We want to hold fresh elections within next three months but the Lahore High Court has stopped us, thus we are going to approach Supreme Court of Pakistan".
He appealed the Engineers to give their correct addresses so that they could be listed as voters.
Engineer Sarfraz Ahmad, Engineer Ayaz Ahmad, Ishaq Malik and Imtiaz Abid were also present on this occasion.
