Foolproof security arrangements have been adopted to maintain peace in the provincial metropolis as Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, is being observed on Tuesday (March 2) with reverence and solemnity here as elsewhere in the country.
Alam and Zuljinaah processions will be taken out across the country in which Ulema and Zakireen will highlight the spirit and teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the need for forging unity to meet the present challengers.
The government has adopted stringent security arrangements for the day.
Imambargahs and places, where Majalis are being held, are under strict security cover, while some eight control rooms and six crisis management centres have been established at different places to monitor deployment, co-ordination and patrol between officials performing field duties.
Special teams are also closely supervising the security situation.
Moreover, the administrations of various city hospitals have adopted special arrangements for dealing with any emergency during Ashura. The additional staff has been deputed in emergency and surgical wards, while life-saving and other medicines have been made available.
Mobile medical units and ambulances would provide first-aid during the Zuljinnah processions.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, in his message on the occasion of Yaum-e-Ashur, said the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) inspires us to be ready to make any sacrifice for upholding the lofty human values.
"Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) set a noble example of laying down his life for the cause of truth. We should also on this occasion renew our determination to act upon the principles of Islam. We should rise above sectarian differences and promote tolerance in the society as Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) sacrificed his life in Karbala to discourage un-Islami trends for the revival of true Islamic values", said the chief minister.
