02 Mar, 2004

The Alitalia airline has decided to start its operations as cargo carrier from Pakistan for the first time.
It had operated from Pakistan as a regular commercial passenger airline, but had to role back its operations in 1974 due to cost and other factors.
According to a press release, issued by the airline here, Alitalia is now planning to capture the cargo market of Pakistan by introducing scheduled Boeing 747-200 freighters to Karachi.
The airline also plans to further increase its presence in Pakistan in the years to come.
Alitalia, founded in 1947, has made its mark in the aviation world. It is currently operating 186 aircraft to over 290 destinations in more than 80 countries, including all the continents except Antarctica.
It is also a member of the Sky Team Alliance, which partners with five other prominent airlines.
