Poppy eradication status in NWFP and tribal areas discussed

Miss Brooke Darby, Director Narcotics Affairs Section, US Embassy Islamabad called on the chief secretary NWFP in his office on Friday.
The main discussion was about the present poppy eradication status in NWFP, Fata and Pata.
Khyber Agency and Kohistan district were the focus of discussion. Special development of backward areas, like Kala Dhaka and Kohistan district was also discussed in the meeting.
The chief secretary reiterated the government's resolve to eradicate the illicit crop everywhere and sustain the zero level of cultivation already achieved by the government of Pakistan for which it has earned laurels of the international community.
Miss Brooke Darby appreciated the government efforts for eradication of poppy in the province and assured of all possible assistance to the government in developing the backward areas to discourage poppy cultivation in the province.
She indicated that she would visit Kohistan and Kala Dhaka areas to meet the elected representatives and government officials to assess their development needs.
