The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has launched nation-wide campaign for the recovery of Rs 44,296 billion stuck up arrears from defaulters.
Unfolding the details of the recovery campaign, Wapda Chairman Tariq Hameed told APP here on Sunday that Wapda had warned all the defaulters irrespective of their status to clear their current bills and arrears to avoid any action which may lead to their arrest and attachment of properties besides, immediate disconnection of their power connections.
The Authority has, in principle, decided to give tough time to defaulters especially chronic to get the lawful arrears from the users, said the Wapda chief, adding all the Wapda chief executives, SEs, Xens and SDOs working in distribution companies across the country have been directed to disconnect the power supply of defaulters forthwith and initiate lawful action against them.
Tariq Hameed said all the SDOs have also been strictly directed to personally pursue, and plead the cases in the court, adding that all consumers, including the government departments and the public sectors have been asked to make habit of paying their electricity bill timely to help Wapda to launch more and more power generation projects to meet the growing demand for power in the country.
