Bureaucrats and PSO

08 Mar, 2004

"Reference news item titled "Pakistan State Oil: let us correct the record," appearing in your newspaper on 16th January, 2004, in response to an Article of 15th January, 2004 on "PSO Privatisation."
I was Director-General Oil from 15th January 1995 to 2nd April, l996 and thereafter from 14th November, 1996 to 13th Ju1y, 2001 when I was posted as Director-General Petroleum concessions.
The writer has alleged that a good corporate entity was misused by bureaucrats for their own personal needs. He has also blamed that a long list of their underlings in the Petroleum Ministry has been punished or is under inquiry for misuse of office.
As regards my individual self is concerned, I vehemently deny having used my official position for any personal need or settling score on personal vendetta. Furthermore by the grace of God neither have I ever been punished nor am I under any inquiry for misuse of office.
This is just to set the record straight on the generalised reporting done in the article. On the remaining issues my comments are reserved.
