CBR chairman's statement welcomed

13 Mar, 2004

Muhammad Nisar Shekhani, Chairman, Site Association of Industry (SAI) welcomed the statement of the new Central Board of Revenue (CBR) Chairman Muhammad Abdullah Yousuf to make CBR policy investor-friendly.
The SAI fully supports his contention that revenue should be increased through widening of tax base instead of squeezing a specific taxpayer or sector.
Site Association of Industry fully supports the new Chairman CBR in his perception of simplification of Income Tax and Sales Tax laws to facilitate the taxpayers. When tax collectors become facilitators, the element of harassment is removed, and a positive image of CBR will definitely emerge, SITE Chairman asserted.
While the Chairman CBR is engaged in the exercise of transforming the department into a "taxpayer-friendly mould", he should also look into the new scourge of "black listing" of sales tax registration.
