The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) will launch the Pakistan Thematic Group on Human Trafficking here on Tuesday.
The thematic group is being formed under the "Development of a Conceptual Framework and Strategies to Combat Trafficking" project, funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), and being implemented by IOM in Pakistan to curb this menace.
One of the main service areas of the Organisation is the fight against the trafficking in persons, which is an exploitative form of irregular migration involving the violation of the migrants' human rights.
The thematic group will exchange ideas and views on the causes, dynamics and consequences of trafficking to support the development of counter-trafficking activities and programmes and assist the government institutions in developing concrete measures towards combating this problem.
Thematic Group in Pakistan, IOM is holding a half-day workshop at a local hotel on Tuesday.
Tasneem Noorani, Federal Secretary for Interior and Narcotics Control, will deliver the keynote speech at the workshop. Sheikh Ali, Acting IOM Regional Representative will also give a presentation on the background and objectives of the programme.
