European Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Pedro Solbes will become economy minister in Spain's incoming Socialist government, financial daily newspaper Expansion reported on Saturday.
Miguel Sebastian, widely seen as the frontrunner for the post, will instead become a special adviser without portfolio to incoming prime minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, the financial daily said, citing Socialist party sources.
But a Socialist party spokeswoman said it was speculation.
"Until there is an official party communique about this subject or it comes from the mouth of Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, it has no validity whatsoever. It's rumour," she said.
