President Pervez Musharraf decorated 108 civil and 29 military awards recipients at an impressive ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr here on Tuesday.
The awards have been given in recognition of outstanding services rendered by the officials of the armed forces and civilians in their respective fields.
Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali, Federal Ministers, Services Chiefs, high ranking civil and military officers and diplomats attended the ceremony.
Twenty-nine Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) were conferred on officers of the armed forces.
Among Civil Awards recipients, Dr Samar Mubarakmand was decorated with Nishan-i-Imtiaz. Hilal-i-Imtiaz was conferred on nine, including late Professor Ahmad Shah Bokhari (Patras), Malik Asif Hayat, IG Punjab, and Jamsheed Marker, a former Ambassador to United Nations.
Hilal-i-Quaid-e-Azam was given to Dr Hussain Abdel Razzak Gezairy, former WHO representative in Pakistan, for services in health sector.
Sitara-e-Imtiaz was conferred on 26 people.
The recipients of Pride of Performance included former film actor Muhammad Yusuf Khan, Ms Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, Agha Khalid Saleem.
Tamgha-i-Shujaat was given to seven.
Among the 26 recipients of Tamgha-i-Imtiaz were prominent journalists Hanif Khalid and Rahimullah Yusufzai.
A Tamgha-i-Khidmat was conferred on Friedrich Faleh for contributing actively in the development of tourism in Pakistan, especially in Northern Areas and NWFP.
Talking to newsmen after the ceremony, Dr Samar Mubarakmand thanked the government for the award, saying that it was recognition of the hard work of scientists of Pakistan and would encourage them.
He said that Pakistan's missiles and nuclear programmes are continuing as the government has provided necessary budgetary resources.
He said they have the necessary manpower and infrastructure for achieving all targets.
APP ADDS: Paris-based designer Mahmood Bhatti (Sitara-i-Imtiaz), writer Mukhtar Masood, former federal minister Dr Abdul Malik Kasi (Sitara-i-Imtiaz) were among more than 100 recipients of civil awards.
Mian Muhammad Mansha, chairman, Nishat Group of companies, was conferred Sitara-i-Imtiaz in recognition of his being the highest exporter, while corporate lawyer Ahsan Zaheer Rizvi was decorated with Sitara-i-Imtiaz for being the highest taxpayer in the country.
Seasoned writer Bano Qudsia and singer Tina Sani were also decorated with civil awards.
