A 3-day 'Jungle Mela' will begin at Jallo Park on Saturday to provide recreational facility and create awareness about trees protection and preservation.
Secretary Forest and Tourism Sajid Hussain Chattha said this at a press conference here on Thursday.
Collective forestation will be made during the Mela with the active participation of students and people belonging to different walks of life, he said.
Essay competition, painting competition, cross-country race, kabbadi match, magic show, Puppet show, musical show, bhaggi riding and a number of other activities are part of the programme, he said.
He said that different sale points for eateries, sports goods, wooden items and stalls of different government departments will also be set up on the occasion.
Chattah said that compact, visible and image building forestation through active support of masses is the motto of the tree plantation efforts of the department.
While analysing causes for not getting desired results in tree upbringing in the past, the secretary said that lack of public participation was the main reason.
At present, a number of incentives have been offered to public for ensuring their active participation, he said and urged people to plant trees and adopt them for getting good name for themselves and their dear ones.
Those who will adopt the trees will be allowed to put their name plates on these trees, he told.
