State Bank of Pakistan Governor Dr Ishrat Hussain has said that there are some principles of good governance and for the achievements of goals, fulfilment of these principles is a prerequisite.
He was speaking as chief guest at a seminar on 'Late Abdullah J Memon, his Personality and Contributions in realm of Good Governance' organised by Department of Public Management Sciences, University of Sindh, at the Institute of Sindhology here on Monday.
He said that instead of blaming or shifting responsibility to others one should realise responsibilities towards the nation and the country and engage in working with devotion to carve a respectable place in the comity of nations.
The SBP Governor said that unity, devotion and hardworking are imperative to bring the country on road to progress and prosperity.
He said that Abdullah J Memon was really a public figure and very near to the masses where he served in different capacities. Paying rich tribute for the services rendered by Memon, he said that Abdullah was a person who always supported to the merit and favoured the affected people.
He said that it is the first principle of good governance that the public servant, wherever he is serving, should be available in his office for the public in their areas.
He said that being an officer he always encouraged his subordinates and challenged the authorities due to his principles of life.
Dr Ishrat said that young students should follow in the footsteps of Abdullah J Memon for the achievement of goals in their life as good professionals.
He thanked the Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh, for inviting him to his alma mater. He said that Siddiqui and he himself worked together in the students union as vice president and secretary.
He also appreciated the steps taken by the University of Sindh towards development of higher education and hoped that this University will be a modern university of the world with its continuous efforts.
Clarifying the mistake in the Advertisement released by the State Bank, Dr Hussain said that the University of Sindh is his alma mater and all its employees are allowed with all facilities for study in the University of Sindh, which has achieved a lot under the leadership of Mazharul Haq Siddiqui.
The Vice Chancellor lauded the services of late Abdullah J Memon for the betterment of the common people.
He said that Memon's attention was publicly focused on the welfare of poor people of the country.
Dr Asadullah Kazi, Vice Chancellor, Isra University Hyderabad, highlighted the services of Abdullah and paid rich tribute on his services for the society. He said that Memon in his service never blamed any other person, even his subordinates, and always encouraged his subordinates.
Saeed Ahmed Siddiqui, Advisor to the Federal Ombudsman and former Chief Secretary, Sindh, also paid rich tribute to Abdullah Memon and said that Memon always stood up to defend the cause of poor people of the society on merit.
He said that Abdullah Memon was a great person and great friend of the friends and added that he was one of those who would be remembered as great person.
Tasneem Siddiqui, Professor Siraj Jamal Siddiqui and others also spoke.
