Provincial Minister for Food and Agriculture Arif Mustafa Jatoi is expected to chair the meetings of provincial crop management committees at Sindh Secretariat on Thursday to discuss the issues confronting various crops and devise strategy for their development.
Crop experts and representative growers of concerned crops would attend the meeting and deliberate on area and production targets and other related matters.
According to sources close to agriculture sector the rice is expected to be cultivated on 0.5 million hectare of land in six rice growing districts of the province.
Last year, an area of 0.551 million hectare was brought under rice cultivation and production target of 1.432 million tones have been achieved.
This year, target is expected to reduce by 51,000 hectare as cotton cultivation has been successfully introduced in rice growing districts of Larkana, Jacobabad and Shikarpur under the plan to replace high delta crop by low delta crop.
