A working committee with key ministries as its member would be set up soon to draw up a long-term national strategy and an action plan for achieving the goals and objectives of the Social Charter.
The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting at the foreign affairs ministry.
The meeting headed by Saarc director-general specifically discussed an Action Plan for the implementation of the Saarc Social Charter.
Representatives from ministries of finance, education, environment, health, women development and social welfare, information and media development, minorities, culture, sports and youth affairs, planning division, narcotics control division, ANF and National Commission on Human Development attended the meeting.
The Social Charter brings together under one document, all the social issues with an added emphasis on poverty attention, sustainable development and women affairs.
The document is an expression of a collective resolve of the Saarc member countries to improve the quality of life and seek a better future for the peoples of the region.
