APNS petition hearing on April 5

03 Apr, 2004

A three-member Supreme Court bench, which partly heard arguments on the admissibility of APNS petition against the law governing the employees will take up the case again on Monday.
Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui has agreed that the Second Bench, as had functioned in mid-March under Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, would decide about legality if the case deserves regular hearing.
The cause list for the coming week said that there will be four benches from Monday to hear a variety of petitions.
The largest number have been filed by the former employees of the Federal Ministries or public corporation like the State Life Insurance Corporation and Pakistan Minerals Development Corporation agitating against their early retirement of the eight-year old Golden Handshake scheme introduced by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The four benches will be composed as follows:
FIRST BENCH: Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui, Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar.
SECOND BENCH: Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan and Justice Falak Sher.
THIRD BENCH: Justice Rana Bhagwandas and Justice Hamid Ali Mirza.
FOURTH BENCH: Justice Mian Muhammad Ajmal, Justice Syed Deedar Hussain Shah and Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar.
