Reuse of mineral water bottles

03 Apr, 2004

With reference to the various letters in the print media on the above subject, we wish to inform the consumers that we have raised this issue, which is a serious threat to the health of the consumers, especially school-going children, through debates and discussions on consumer watch programme, on PTV.
In our meetings with Dr Professor Atta-ur-Rahman, Federal Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Khaqan Hasan, Director General, PSQCA, this danger, especially the bottling and marketing of spurious and counterfeit bottled water and beverages, cooking oils, shampoos, etc was discussed.
Unscrupulous manufacturers are filling counterfeit products in old and used bottles and rusted tins, which are not even cleaned properly.
As such, we advise the consumers, in their own interest, to protect themselves from counterfeit products, to puncture two holes on the tops of all plastic, tin and other containers, including cooking oils, shampoos bottles, etc, so that they cannot be used to refill spurious products.
